If you are visiting Grand-Staircase Escalante, Devil’s Garden is a great little place to spend an hour or two. We made Devil’s Garden our last stop before heading home from spending the weekend in Escalante.
Getting There
To get to Devil’s Garden, head Southeast on Hole-in-the-Rock Road in Escalante for 12 miles and you will see a turn-off on the right with a sign leading to Devil’s Garden. You can park and get out and explore the area. There are bathrooms, picnic tables, fire pits, and barbecue grills, but no water, and firewood collecting is not allowed.
We parked our car and explored the area for about an hour, although, we could have spent at least 3 hours seeing all of the cool rock formations, hoodoos, and hidden arches. From the parking lot it looks like it will be pretty small, but as you start to explore, you will find that it goes on forever. Every time we thought we had seen everything, another formation caught our eye.
We enjoyed climbing on top of some of the formations and getting a cool view from above. This place is a photographers dream. Make sure you spend time capturing some cool photos you won’t get anywhere else.
If you are ever in Escalante, we recommend making the short stop down Hole-in-the-Rock road to see and explore Devil’s Garden.
